XAI Unveils Grok-2 with New Image Generation Feature on X
Elon Musk’s xAI released Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini in beta, offering improved reasoning and image generation features exclusive to Premium users on X, while also planning to expand developer access and integrate AI-driven functions on the platform.
Elon Musk released Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini in beta today with improved reasoning. The new Grok AI model can now make images on the social network X, but only Premium and Premium+ users of X can access Grok right now.
According to xAI, users on X can access both Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini while it is still in beta. “We’re excited to share an early look at Grok-2, which is a big improvement over our previous model, Grok-1.5. It has cutting-edge features in chat, coding, and reasoning.” Simultaneously, xAI’s blog post about Grok-2 introduces Grok-2 mini, Grok-2’s smaller sibling.
Late this month, Musk’s AI company also plans to make both models available to developers through its enterprise API.
Early user images show that Grok’s image generation feature doesn’t have any rules against making pictures of politicians, and many users are currently taking advantage of this. However, since the U.S. election is coming up soon, the company will probably feel pressured to limit these features. Grok is making these pictures with FLUX.1 by Black Forest Labs, according to the text below the sample image prompts.
There aren’t many details about what Grok 2 can do right now. Nima Owji, an app researcher and X feature tester said that Grok 2 is better at writing, news, and making code, but there isn’t much evidence to back that up.
On top of that, Grok’s first version made a lot of mistakes when summarising news. If Grok had no limitations on image creation, it could easily propagate false information on X and other platforms. Furthermore, it remains unclear if Grok-powered images possess any metadata indicating their AI origin.
X’s Silence Continues
We inquired about X’s plans to prevent individuals from creating images for malicious purposes, and we will update you as soon as we receive a response. But since Musk took over, the company hasn’t answered many media questions.
xAI stated that the company will use Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini in AI-driven features on X, such as improved search, post analytics, and reply functions.
X may add replies powered by AI. The business also said it would show off multimodal understanding, which is an important part of Grok’s experience on X and API.
