Trump’s AI Deepfake Singing Mandarin Goes Viral: Shocking Impact on Global Politics

A popular Douyin video shows deepfakes made by AI of American politicians singing in Mandarin. This has caused discussions about AI’s role in sharing false information and how it affects the way people talk about politics around the world.

On Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, a video of American politicians like Donald Trump and Kamala Harris singing in perfect Mandarin has gone viral. Even though the clips are funny, they have led to more serious conversations about the power of AI-made content and what it means for spreading false information around the world.

An extremely popular video shows former President Trump singing “I love you, China.” While he sings “Dear Mother,” Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat running against him in 2024, responds with another Mandarin song. The movie is not real, even though it sounds funny.

Tens of thousands of people have liked and shared the video on Douyin. People said things like, “These two are almost as Chinese as it gets,” and some were funny and liked how the two cultures mixed. There are also videos going around on Instagram and TikTok of American politicians singing Chinese songs.

AI and Political Manipulation Concerns

People in the intelligence community are puzzled by the rise of these films made by AI. Experts say that China and other countries have been using generative AI more and more to get involved in and change the political conversation before the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

In the past few months, there has been more use of Chinese AI-generated material that tries to divide and sway people in the U.S., according to a report released by Microsoft in April.

People who have seen the videos think they are more of a mirror of Chinese cultural confidence than a real effort to spread false information. Alexa Pan, an expert on China’s AI business, said, “By making powerful Americans like Biden and Trump sing Chinese songs, they can culturally domesticate them.”

The deepfake trend has been mostly about making funny or parody content. For example, many videos show Biden and Trump singing about unity as close friends. Even though the trend is funny, it shows that people are becoming more worried about how AI technology could be misused.
