Top 7 AI Governance Recommendations by UN Advisory Experts

The UN advising group has put out seven main suggestions to deal with the risks of AI governance. These include better sharing of information, the creation of a scientific panel, and efforts to regulate AI on a global level.

On Thursday, the UN’s artificial intelligence advisory group released its final report. It includes seven suggestions for how to deal with the risks and gaps in governance that come with AI.

Last year, the U.N. put together a group of 39 people to help with issues linked to regulating AI around the world. At a U.N. meeting in September, the suggestions will be talked about.

The advisory group asked for the creation of a panel to provide fair and unbiased scientific information about AI and to fix the lack of information sharing between AI labs and the rest of the world.

Since OpenAI’s ChatGPT came out in 2022, the use of AI has grown quickly, which has raised worries about spreading false information and copyright violations.

Laws that limit the use of AI tools are only in place in a few countries. China has tried to keep things stable and under state control, while the US only requires people to follow the law if they want to. The European Union was ahead of the rest by passing a complete AI Act.

On September 10, about 60 countries, including the US, agreed to a “blueprint for action” to handle the proper use of AI in the military. on the other hand, China did not agree with the declaration, which was not legally binding.

A few big companies are working on AI, and the U.N. said in a statement that there is a risk that people will be forced to use the technology without being able to choose how it is used.
