Taiwan’s Wiwynn Steps In as Supermicro Stumbles on NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 AI Chip Order

Taiwanese company Wiwynn, which is part of the Winstron Group, is stepping in to help NVIDIA after Supermicro caused a problem by ordering the new GB200 NVL72 AI chips. This is a big change in the supply chain.

The American-based tech firm known as Supermicro has recently experienced a myriad of financial difficulties such as a DoJ investigation. It also had to cease the process of expanding its factories, which had a major impact on its business in Malaysia. Because of these problems, Supermicro was unable to serve the demand of a ‘massive’ order of NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL72 AI computers. Wiwynn has been asked to handle production, sending parts of the huge order for AI chips to its factories in Taiwan and Malaysia to avoid delays.

UDN says that after Supermicro had problems, the first wave of moved orders was sent to factories in Taiwan. Usually, NVIDIA is in charge of these kinds of order changes, but this move is said to have come from one of Supermicro’s big clients. Because Wiwynn already has a network of factories, including plans to expand in Malaysia, the company is able to help Supermicro with its logistics problems.

It also supports the development of an AI system by YTL Group in Malaysia. NVIDIA’s DGX GB200 NVL72 AI servers will be deployed by the company YTL Power of the YTL Group at its new green data center at a 1,640-acre site in Johor, Malaysia. This will provide the brain with more than 300 ExaFLOPS in computing capability. When operational this AI machine should be among the first in the world in terms of speed. It reveals the extent to which GB200 NVL72 chips from NVIDIA are crucial in enhancing AI computation across the globe.

With the support of Wiwynn, NVIDIA implements a large-scale production of the GB200 NVL72 AI server. This continues feeding the supply chain for AI servers even as Supermicro scrambles to address its current challenges.
