OpenAI’s Sam Altman Confident Trump Will Propel U.S. AI Leadership

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman discusses the U.S. AI race, infrastructure needs, and regulation under Trump’s leadership.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman optimistically believes that the new president-elect Donald Trump will be able to make America a more powerful leader in AI in the world.  Altman stressed on Fox News Sunday that strong infrastructure is needed to support AI progress and suggested that the new government could play a key role in making this happen.

“We need to build the best AI infrastructure in the world to lead in this technology,” Altman stated. “I believe President-elect Trump will be very good at that.”

Meanwhile, Altman talked about how the competition between the US and China in AI is growing and how important it is for the US and its partners to stay at the top of the field. AI infrastructure needs a lot of energy, state-of-the-art data centers, and access to advanced electronics and chips.

Altman also said, “We really think that the US and our allies need to take the lead on this.”

Altman also asked Congress to take steps to set limits on how AI is used. He didn’t say much about possible laws, but he did stress how important it is for society to have a say in AI’s future.

Altman said, “OpenAI shouldn’t be the only one setting the rules for how technologies like ChatGPT are used.” “This is a question for everyone.”

The meteoric rise of OpenAI

With innovations like ChatGPT, OpenAI has quickly become a leader in the field of artificial intelligence. But some people don’t like that the company went from being non-profit to for-profit. US media say that billionaire and co-founder of OpenAI Elon Musk recently tried to go to court to fight this change. Musk left the group in 2018.

The fact that Altman is sure Trump will back AI shows that the U.S. AI environment might get a boost as things change. Countries are still competing to be the best at technology in this important area.
