OpenAI Launches ChatGPT App for Windows: An Enhanced AI Experience
OpenAI is trying a brand-new ChatGPT app for Windows right now, but only paid users can use it. The early version of the app can be found in the Microsoft Store.
The Windows app lets users speak with the AI chatbot in a separate window that can stay open while you use other apps. This is the same as the Mac version. It’s easy to open the app fast by pressing Alt + Space.
The app also lets users share files and photos and shows them a sneak peek of OpenAI’s newest model, o1, which is better at reasoning. Still, some features, like the advanced voice mode, are not ready yet.
Since the Mac version of the ChatGPT was released in June of this year, a developer was able to identify a vulnerability in the app that stored the chats in plain text. Since then OpenAI has rectified this issue by standardizing encryption of all locally stored information.
Currently it is only available for ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscriptions, and OpenAI promised to make it free for all users before the year ends.
