OpenAI Introduces O1 Reasoning Model to API for Tier 5 Developers
OpenAI adds the “reasoning” AI model O1 to its API and is gradually implementing it for tier 5 developers to enhance their advanced AI capabilities.
OpenAI said on Tuesday that it will add its “reasoning” AI model, o1, to its application programming interface (API). The company is targeting a small group of developers, and the rollout will begin with developers in the “tier 5” usage category.
To qualify for this category, developers must have spent at least $1,000 with OpenAI and kept their accounts active for more than 30 days after the first successful payment.
In a blog post, OpenAI announced that they will gradually expand access to O1 to accommodate higher usage levels and increase rate limits. The company stressed that reasoning models like O1 are different from most other AI systems because they can effectively check the accuracy of their outputs.
The “new post-trained” version of the O1 model, available through the API, features improvements based on user feedback compared to the O1 model that ChatGPT released two weeks ago.
OpenAI also released new versions of its GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini models, which are now part of the Realtime API. These updated models promise better data efficiency and reliability, and they will also save developers money.
