OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT on iPhones with iOS 18.2 Update

OpenAI releases ChatGPT for iPhone alongside iOS 18.2, a big step toward combining AI with Apple products.

OpenAI has officially released ChatGPT for iPhone. This is a big step forward for combining AI with Apple products. According to a recent report, the AI tech giant released its iPhone app on Wednesday, the same day that iOS 18.2 became available to all users.

ChatGPT works directly with Siri, writing tools, and the camera with this integration. OpenAI will unveil a new feature on the fifth day of their “12 Days of Shipmas” product launch. For the first time, this gives outside software a rare chance to access important iPhone features.

ChatGPT can now understand Siri commands and carry out tasks across the whole operating system. “When Siri thinks that it would be better to give a task to ChatGPT, it can just hand it off,” Dave Cummings, engineering manager for ChatGPT at OpenAI, said during Wednesday’s demonstration.

CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman said at a press conference on Wednesday, “We want to make ChatGPT as frictionless and easy to use everywhere as possible.”

“We love Apple devices, so this integration is one that we’re very, very proud of,” he said.

You can use Siri to talk to the system, the Writing Tools to edit text, or the Camera Control button to use Visual Intelligence. You can use basic ChatGPT features without an account, but you must subscribe to use premium features.
