OpenAI in Secret Talks with Broadcom to Create Revolutionary AI Chip
OpenAI and Broadcom are working together to make Revolutionary AI chips that will help make up for GPU shortages and move AI technology forward.
The Information reported on Thursday that OpenAI is talking with chip makers, such as Broadcom opens in a new tab, about making a new AI chip.
OpenAI is thinking about making its own AI chips because it can’t get enough of the expensive GPUs it needs to make AI models like GPT-4, DALL-E3, and ChatGPT.
According to people who were involved, the Microsoft-backed company is hiring former Google workers who worked on the company’s own AI chip, the tensor processing unit. The company has also decided to make an AI server chip.
