Nvidia’s Game-Changing Blackwell AI Chip Is Coming to China

Nvidia starts a new tab is making a version of its newest AI chips for the Chinese market that works with the rules that govern exports from the United States.

The big AI chip company Nvidia showed off its “Blackwell” chip line in March. Later this year, a lot of these chips will be made.

Two sources say that Nvidia will work with Inspur, one of its main retail partners in China, to launch and sell the chip, which is being called the “B20” for now. In the second quarter of 2025, the “B20” will begin to be shipped. Nvidia has not yet made a public statement about this.

U.S. export controls have become stricter, which has helped Chinese tech giant Huawei and startups like Tencent-backed  starts new tab Enflame break into the U.S. market for advanced AI processors.

If Nvidia made a chip from its Blackwell series for the Chinese market, it would help the U.S. company fight those threats. Because of U.S. sanctions, China only brought in about 17% of Nvidia’s income in the year ending in January. This is down from 26% the year before.

Market Impact and Rising Sales

Because the U.S. company priced the H20 cheaper than a competing Huawei chip, it got off to a rough start when it was first sent to China. It is Nvidia’s most advanced chip for that market. But, according to some sources, sales are now going up really quickly. After the news came out, Nvidia stock in the U.S. went up 1.4% to $119.67 before the market opened.

Nvidia is on track to make more than $12 billion this year by selling more than a million H20 chips in China, according to the study. American officials say they want Japan and the Netherlands to make it even harder for China to get tools for making chips. Additionally, the government of Joe Biden is considering putting limits on the most advanced AI models.
