Nvidia Expands AI Reach with New Innovation Center in Tunisia
Nvidia announced on September 17 that it would open an AI innovation centre in Tunisia’s Novation City to help the country become more digital and to boost AI development in Africa as a whole.
Nvidia, an American tech company, said on September 17 that it would open an artificial intelligence (AI) innovation centre in Tunisia.
The center, which is in the Novation City technology park, wants to give Tunisian developers the tools they need to use AI more widely in Africa by providing training, technology, and networking opportunities.
Tunisia is getting ready to adopt a national AI and digitalization strategy. This is part of a larger plan to make the country a digital leader in Africa.
The University of Tunis opened Tunisia’s first public AI institute earlier this year, which is another step towards integrating AI.
Many economic sectors expect the use of AI to stimulate social and economic growth. For example, the World Bank says AI can boost productivity in agriculture, which employs about two-thirds of Africa’s workers and makes up 15% of the continent’s GDP.
It can help make better seeds that work better in different areas, give farmers advice on the best crops for their soil and climate, and assist with making medicines and vaccines for animals.
According to Oxford Insights’ 2023 “Government AI Readiness Index,” Tunisia is ranked 81 out of 193 countries when it comes to being ready for AI. Its score was 46.07 out of 100. It comes in third in Africa, after Mauritius and Egypt.
