Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said: AI’s Role in Graphics Is Now Crucial for Future Technology

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang talked about how AI is an important part of modern computer graphics. He stated that AI is improving image quality, energy efficiency, and software development, as well as changing fields like gaming, robotics, and drug discovery.

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, said that AI is now an important part of modern computer graphics. This marks a significant shift in the development of visual technologies.

At the Goldman Sachs Communications + Technology conference on September 11, Huang asserted that the very core of graphical computing now incorporates AI.

Huang told Seeking Alpha, “We can’t do computer graphics anymore without artificial intelligence.”  Huang also said that Nvidia uses AI to compute only a small part of an image and guess the rest. “We figure out one pixel and guess the other 32.” The image quality and performance are both amazing, and it looks like a real photo.

People have said that AI uses too much energy, but Huang said that using it for graphics can make it use less energy. “Computing one pixel takes a lot of energy, inferencing the other 32 takes very little energy, and you can do it incredibly fast.” Huang also said that when using these methods to write code, there are “productivity gains,” and that is “just incredible.”

AI’s Expanding Role in Software Development and Gaming

Huang also talked about the importance of AI in software development, especially when it comes to writing code.  He said, “There isn’t a single software engineer in our company who doesn’t use code generators.” He also said that “digital engineers” powered by AI would become common in all fields.

Nvidia’s DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), which is based on AI, works better by creating more frames. Sony employs similar AI techniques in the PS5 Pro’s PSSR upscaling.

Huang ended by talking about Nvidia’s broader AI uses, such as robotics, digital biology, and self-driving cars. He said that AI is changing fields like drug discovery with computer-based tools. A Unity report shows that 62% of game development studios now use AI, mostly for animation. Nvidia’s AI innovations are part of a growing trend that is already here.
