Nobel Winners in Chemistry and Physics Spark Google’s AI Revolution

Demis Hassabis and Geoffrey Hinton, two leaders of Google’s AI team, win Nobel Prizes. This brings attention to AI’s transformative role in science while also raising ethical issues.

This week, two of Google’s current and former executives got the Nobel Peace Prize. This put Google in the news. Demis Hassabis, who runs Google’s AI business, won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry on Thursday. He and two other scientists shared this award for their groundbreaking work using AI to guess the shapes of proteins.

Hinton got the Nobel Prize in Physics the day before. He is known as the “godfather of AI.” He and the scientist John Hopfield won this award for their work on machine learning.

The Nobel Foundation knows the general role of AI for finding answers in science to provide its citizens and others with new knowledge. This is good for Google’s reputation and shows how AI developments have shifted study.

It looks like the Nobel Foundation wants to give its prestigious prizes to advances in AI and the idea that important scientific problems can be answered by computers. Firms like Google and leaders like Hassabis will look better because of that. But there’s also a chance that this attention will make people less worried about both the technology itself and the fact that more and more AI power is being held by just a few companies.

There needs to be more talk about what AI means as it becomes more used in different areas. The Nobel Prizes honour great successes, but they also make us think about the future of AI and the risks it might pose.

Even if Google’s leaders like it, we need to pay more attention to what will happen as AI gets better. But it will be very important to handle change and business growth in a way that doesn’t violate ethics as the industry introduces new technologies.
