Microsoft Plans AI Collaborations with Top South Korean Tech Companies
Next month, Microsoft will host top executives from South Korea’s top tech companies to strengthen its AI partnerships.
This important meeting, called the MS CEO Summit 2024, will happen on May 14, 2024. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, and Satya Nadella, the Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, will both be there. They will talk with Kyung Kye-hyun of Samsung, Kwak Noh-jung of SK Hynix, Cho Joo-wan of LG Electronics, and Ryu Young-sang of SK Telecom behind closed doors.
Microsoft wants to look into working with other companies in different fields to use AI technology. Talks with Samsung and SK Hynix will probably be mostly about making and selling AI chips together.
Samsung and SK Hynix are two of the best memory chipmakers in the world. With next-generation technologies like High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) AI chips and solid-state drives (SSDs), Microsoft can improve its server capabilities.
Microsoft and LG Electronics will collaborate on putting AI technologies into home appliances. This will give Microsoft an edge over competitors like Google and Meta. The deal with SK Telecom means that Microsoft will likely offer more cloud and 5G services.
These meetings are happening at a good time because AI development is getting more attention around the world. By adding Microsoft’s AI services to products such as Samsung’s smartphones and LG’s home appliances, the company could greatly improve its position in the market.
Device Solutions’ Kyung announced last month that they will soon begin mass production of their new AI accelerators, Mach-1 and Mach-2. Device Solutions has designed these accelerators to optimize the collaboration between GPUs and HBM chips, thereby significantly enhancing processing speed. The company showed off the first LPDDR5X DRAM in the industry earlier this month. Its goal is to improve AI on the device.
The Global Telco AI Alliance (GTAA) is led by SK Telecom’s CEO, Ryu. This group, which includes big names like Deutsche Telekom and SingTel, wants to build AI infrastructure and generative AI services for more than 1.3 billion customers around the world.
SK Telecom put $100 million into the AI startup Anthropic last year so that it could make a large language model (LLM) just for telcos. The GTAA initiated the ongoing Telco AI Platform project as part of the collaboration.
The MS CEO Summit 2024 offers a chance for AI to work together better and for technology to get better, which will solidify Microsoft’s position as a major player in the field.
