Microsoft Introduces Phi-3-mini: Your iPhone Now an AI Superpower!
The Phi-3-Mini is the newest form of Microsoft’s “lightweight” AI model that was shown off. Microsoft says that the Phi-3 is a group of open AI models that are the best and most affordable small language models (SLMs) out there.
The Phi-3-Mini is thought to be the first of the three small models that Microsoft plans to release. Reports say it did better than models the same size and the next size up on a number of measures, including language, reasoning, coding, and maths.
Language models are the most important part of AI programmes like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and others. These models are trained on existing data to solve common language problems like sorting texts into groups, asking questions, making new texts, summarising documents, and so on.
‘Large’ in LLMs can mean two things: the huge amount of training data or the number of parameters. In the field of Machine Learning, which is about making machines smart enough to learn things on their own, parameters are the memories and facts that a machine has picked up during its model training. They describe how well the model can solve a certain problem.
What’s new in Phi-3-mini?
With Microsoft’s newest model, users can choose from a wider range of high-quality language models. This gives them more options when they are making generative AI apps. You can find a 3.8B language model called Phi-3-mini on Microsoft Azure AI Studio, HuggingFace, and Ollama, which are all AI writing platforms.
The context window is the amount of discussion that an AI can read and write at any given time. Tokens are used to measure this window. Microsoft says that Phi-3-mini comes in two different versions, one with 4K context-length and the other with 128K tokens. Models can better understand and make sense of big amounts of text, like documents, web pages, code, and more, when their context windows are longer.
It’s the first model in its class that can handle a context window of up to 128K tokens without affecting quality too much. It means that the model has been taught to follow the different kinds of directions that users give it.
For more options, Microsoft says that new models will be added to the Phi-3 family in the next few weeks. Soon, you’ll be able to find Phi-3-small (7B) and Phi-3-Medium in the Azure AI model collection and other model libraries.
Empowering iPhones with Microsoft’s Phi-3-mini AI Technology
With Microsoft’s new PHI-3-mini AI technology, the iPhone 14 becomes a powerful AI tool that brings advanced features straight to users’ phones without compromising their privacy. With 3.8 billion parameters, this small model works offline and fits easily into everyday devices.
Its performance is about the same as that of bigger AI systems like GPT-3.5. PHI-3-mini is a big step towards making advanced AI technology safe and easy for individuals to use. It does this by using a new way to optimise data and make AI work better.
