Meta tries out its AI chatbot on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger in India and Africa.
Meta is testing its advanced chatbot, Meta AI, with WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger users in India and some parts of Africa. Meta AI is powered by a large language model.
The move shows how the company plans to use its users from all of its apps to make its AI services more useful to more people.
In February 2023, Meta first said that it would be making chatbots and other AI tools and looking into them. Meta’s biggest single market is India, which has more than 500 million Facebook and WhatsApp users and is a very important market for the company.
A Meta spokesperson told the media that the company’s Gen AI-powered experiences are in different stages of development and are also being tested by the public in a limited way.
In September of last year, Meta AI, an all-purpose assistant, made its debut. In chats, the chatbot answers users’ questions and turns text into photorealistic images. The company also said that Llama 3, the next version of its open-source large language model, will be available by June of this year.
