Google Announces $1 Billion Investment in Thailand Data Center & Cloud
Google invests $1 billion in Thailand to establish a data centre and cloud region, accelerating the adoption of AI and cloud services in Southeast Asia.
On Monday, Alphabet Inc’s Google announced a significant investment of $1 billion in Thailand. Google will direct this funding towards the construction of a data centre and cloud region, with the aim of addressing the increasing demand for cloud services and facilitating the adoption of artificial intelligence across Southeast Asia.
Google said that a study of the project by Deloitte showed that the investment would create an average of 14,000 jobs each year until 2029. As part of its plan to improve cloud services, Microsoft said in May that it would open its first regional data centre in Thailand.
“Google’s cloud and data center infrastructure in Bangkok and Chonburi will help meet growing demand for Google Cloud capabilities and AI innovations, as well as the company’s popular digital services, such as Search, Maps, and Google Workspace,” it stated.
Google Cloud Expansion in Thailand
An industrial estate in Chonburi would house its data centre, while Bangkok, the nation’s capital, would house the Google cloud region, which consists of the hardware and software that powers the data centre.
The prime minister of Thailand, Ayub Hun Sen, stated that Google’s investment “perfectly aligned” with the nation’s Cloud First Policy.
