Elon Musk’s XAI Offers Free Access to Grok AI Chatbot on X
Elon Musk’s XAI is getting ready to let free users on X use Grok, its AI chatbot, which was only available to paid customers before.
Until now, Elon Musk’s other company, xAI, has only allowed its paid users to use Grok, an AI chatbot, on social network X. But it looks like the platform is getting ready to let free users use the chatbot.
Several app researchers and users reported this past weekend that Grok was available for free in specific locations. TechCrunch has confirmed that X is testing some way for free users in New Zealand to get to Grok.
According to a researcher known as Swak on X, there are currently limitations on its use. For the Grok-2 model, there are 10 queries every two hours.
For the Grok-2 mini model, there are 20 queries every two hours. And there are three image analysis questions every day. If your account is at least seven days old and connected to a phone number, you can use Grok for free.
xAI Expands Grok Model Access to All Users
In August, Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 model assisted xAI in releasing Grok-2, a model capable of creating images. The company also made the model able to understand pictures at the end of last month.
Up until now, only Premium and Premium+ users could use all of these features. By allowing anyone to use Grok for free, xAI may be aiming to increase the number of users and gather feedback on its products more quickly, to compete with models such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
