At WWDC, Apple is likely to show off “Apple Intelligence,” a generative AI project they are working on with OpenAI. This will improve Siri and other apps by combining local and cloud-based processing, and it will start as an opt-in beta for some new and older devices.
Apple is set to embrace generative AI at the World Wide Developer Conference next week. Up until now, reports have pointed to a partnership with OpenAI that will help Siri do a lot more.
New rumors shed more light on the news that is likely to be announced at the 10 a.m. PT keynote on Monday. The thing is called Apple Intelligence.
There was no doubt that the company wanted to keep the AI initials for its attempt at the large language model (LLM) pinata.
The name seems to refer to a bigger push into the category, which could include the partnership with OpenAI and the chatbot that came out of it.
Like the developer-focused updates to Apple’s operating systems released after WWDC, Apple Intelligence will launch as an opt-in beta. New iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions should come with the system.
According to a report, the system will also work on older devices, such as iPads and Macs with an M1 chip or higher. These include the iPhone 15 Pro. This could potentially leave the regular iPhone 15 behind.
Enhancing Existing Apps: Apple’s AI Focus in 2024
Apple Intelligence will first work on improving apps that are already out there. This includes things like Safari page summaries and notification summaries.
As previously mentioned, Apple is revamping Siri for 2024, expanding her capabilities to include voice-activated photo editing.
From what I can tell, Apple’s main goal in AI is not to improve Flash, but to make its operating system easier to understand and use.
Despite alleged hardware limitations, the system does not operate solely on the device. Instead, it will use both local and cloud-based processes, depending on how hard the task is.
