Apple Set to Unveil First Ever Generative AI iPhone at September 9 Event
Apple’s upcoming event on September 9 is expected to unveil the iPhone 16, which may feature advanced AI capabilities, though significant improvements are not expected until later models.
Apple has set a date for its next big event, which is likely to be the launch of the iPhone 16. A big tech company is throwing a party on September 9 with the theme “It’s Glowtime.” There will be a live stream of the event at 10 a.m. PT in Apple Park at the Steve Jobs Theatre.
It’s not clear what “Glowtime” means yet, but the latest iPhone is likely to have a lot of AI built in. At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Apple showed off a bunch of generative AI features for the iPhone.
The company showed off the first set of tools powered by “Apple Intelligence.” These include personalized Genmoji, Apple’s AI-generated emoji, and a much smarter Siri that can tell you about your schedule, your email, and when family or friends’ flights land.
An iPhone 15 Pro Max owner may be able to use some AI features, but the iPhone 16 will likely be the first device designed with AI in mind. Apple also announced a partnership with OpenAI, the company that made ChatGPT, at the conference. OpenAI is also under a lot of scrutiny and faces its problems.
Some iPhone features, such as Live Text and an improved autocorrect function, have incorporated artificial intelligence for years. But better generative AI could add to those features to make them more interactive and personalised.
This could indicate that the new iPhone is the first to incorporate some of these features. But Angelo Zino, a technology analyst at CFRA Research, said the outlook for the iPhone 16 isn’t excellent because the new AI features won’t come out for a few years. For example, Zino said that better Siri might not come out until 2025.
“This is going to be more of an evolutionary process rather than some big cyclical, iPhone cycle,” he said. When users tell tools what to do, generative AI lets them make written work, images, and even sound.
Apple’s Siri and ChatGPT-4o Collaboration
A lot of experts say that Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, would be the company’s first step into artificial intelligence. If you combine Siri with OpenAI’s newest ChatGPT-4o model, the assistant might be able to remember a picture you took years ago, give you more specific information, and maybe even learn your likes and dislikes and personality over time.
The launch could change how Apple plans to move forward with the iPhone. China’s iPhone sales have dropped sharply because the economy is uncertain and there is more competition.
How much will the new device cost? That’s one of the main questions people have about it. Apple fans have argued for years about whether iPhone models should be less expensive, but investors want to make as much money as possible.
CFRA doesn’t think the price of the iPhone 16 will go up by a lot, but Zino said that adding AI features “could potentially see them raise prices across the board.” Apple’s competitors have already implemented generative AI. For example, Samsung’s “circle to search” feature lets users quickly look for information on a device’s screen with finger movement.
