Apple & Nvidia Discussing OpenAI Funding Partnership, Media Sources Reveal
Reports say that Apple and Nvidia are talking about forming a funding partnership for OpenAI. Both companies are said to be in talks to join a new funding round that could value OpenAI at over $100 billion.
Apple and Nvidia are apparently in talks to invest in OpenAI as part of a new round of funding that could value the ChatGPT maker above $100 billion.
According to sources, the Wall Street Journal was the first to report that Apple was interested. Later, Bloomberg News claimed that Nvidia might be involved.
It was reported in the Journal the day before that venture capital company Thrive Capital would lead the funding round and invest about $1 billion in OpenAI.
Apple’s plans for artificial intelligence are becoming more and more dependent on OpenAI. In June, the iPhone maker added ChatGPT, an AI robot from OpenAI, to Apple products as part of “Apple Intelligence.”
According to the WSJ, Microsoft, which has put more than $10 billion in OpenAI and is its biggest strategic investor, will also take part in the funding round.
The exact amounts of money that Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia put in are still a secret. When OpenAI released ChatGPT in late 2022, it started an AI arms race that led companies from all fields to spend billions on the technology to stay ahead of the competition and get a piece of the market.
According to reports, the company run by Sam Altman was worth $80 billion in February after doing a deal with Thrive Capital to sell current shares in a “tender offer.”
