Apple and Meta have talked about working together on AI
Meta Platforms talked about putting its generative AI model into Apple’s recently announced AI system for iPhones. Anthropic and Perplexity were also involved in the talks.
Meta Platforms, the Facebook-owned company, talked about adding Meta’s generative AI model to the AI system that Apple Inc. just announced for iPhones on Sunday.
Aside from Google and Meta, AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity have also been in talks with Apple to add their generative AI to Apple Intelligence, according to the Journal, citing people who know about the talks. Requests for comment made outside of business hours received no immediate response from the companies Apple, Meta, Perplexity, and Anthropic.
Apple’s AI strategy unveiled: Potential deals and market impact
The WSJ said that the talks aren’t over yet and could fall through. They also said that deals with Apple would help AI companies get their products into more stores.
It’s not clear how much money could be made, but the report says that AI companies were talking about selling premium subscriptions to their services through Apple Intelligence.
This month, the company that makes iPhones finally announced its long-awaited AI strategy.
It said it would add new Apple Intelligence technology to all of its apps, including Siri, and add the Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT to its products.
