Apple Adds ChatGPT to iPhones in Major AI Update

Apple debuted a new AI project called “Apple Intelligence” at its annual developers conference. As part of this, OpenAI’s ChatGPT will be built into Siri and the company’s operating systems. As of autumn, a test version will be available. The goal is to improve the customer experience and make the company more competitive. Analysts said the update might calm investors’ fears but bring to light deeper problems at Apple, as Elon Musk raised worries about data security.

As Apple tries to catch up in the race for AI, it will add OpenAI’s ChatGPT to its Siri voice helper and computers to make them better.

At its yearly developers show on Monday, the company that makes the iPhone showed off the new Siri and some other new features. It’s part of a new custom AI system called “Apple Intelligence” that’s meant to make it easier for people to use their Apple products. As part of a deal with developer OpenAI, Apple will add ChatGPT to updates for its iPhone and Mac running systems.

You can also use ChatGPT to improve other tools, like tools for making text and material. You’ll be able to get the test version in the fall. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the move would take his company’s goods “to new heights” when he opened the Worldwide Developers Conference at Cupertino, California’s Apple headquarters.

Not everyone was happy about the news. Electric car and Twitter/X founder Elon Musk said he might not allow iPhones in his businesses because of “data security” concerns. On X, Mr. Musk said that Apple has no idea what’s going on once they give your info to OpenAI. “They’re selling you down the river.”

Apple has been under a lot of pressure to add new AI features to its products since competitors have quickly started to use the technology. In January, Microsoft passed Apple as the most valuable company in the world. In early June, Nvidia passed Apple again. Chief expert at CCS Insight Ben Wood said that Apple’s new personal AI system should help calm down worried investors, but that the company may have deeper problems that its ChatGPT integration may show.

In 2023, Mr. Cook told investors that the company would be careful with the tech. Those plans were finally put out on Monday. Many tech companies have released a lot of AI goods in the past few months, but Apple hasn’t really been there.
