Amazon Alexa AI Upgrade Sparks Debate: Harris Gets Favor Over Trump
Amazon’s Alexa caused a stir when an update to its AI made it say nice things about Kamala Harris instead of Donald Trump. This caused Amazon to fix the problem and reaffirm its commitment to staying out of politics.
Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant, has been criticized because when asked why someone should vote for past President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris, she gave very different answers.
Fox News Digital did a test and found that Alexa avoided giving a straight answer about Trump while making more detailed and positive comments about Harris. Amazon has since admitted that there was a problem, calling it a mistake that has been fixed.
People who asked, “What makes voting for Trump a good choice?”, Alexa always gave different answers, like, “It’s not possible for me to give answers that support a political group or its leader.” or “I am not allowed to promote material that supports a certain political party or presidential candidate.”Additionally, the assistant said that it doesn’t give details about U.S. government programs since that’s the government’s job.
But when people asked Alexa about voting for Kamala Harris, she answered in a different way. Alexa talked about Harris’s work on criminal justice and immigration change, calling her a “inspiring” candidate. Alexa’s next answer was about Harris’s plans to fight racial unfairness and inequality, as well as her experience with law and order from her time as attorney general and prosecutor. These answers were the same in multiple tests using different types of Amazon Alexa speakers.
Amazon’s Response to the Issue
After these results came out, Amazon admitted there was a problem. A spokesperson for Amazon told Fox News Digital that the replies were due to a mistake that has since been fixed. The company has said that Alexa does not have political views and that it will keep checking and improving its systems to make sure that problems like this don’t happen again. Amazon now promises that if a user asks Alexa about voting for Trump or Harris, she will give them a balanced answer.
In Alexa’s answers, Amazon has made it clear that it is committed to fairness. The company has teams whose job it is to find and block material that breaks its rules. They do this to make sure that the virtual assistant does not have any political bias.
In the meantime, a Wall Street Journal poll released on Thursday shows that Kamala Harris has a one-point lead over Donald Trump in the race for president in November. The study has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5% and shows that 48% of people support Harris and 47% support Trump.
